Wends is an indie rock group formed by five friends from Jyväskylä, Finland. Founded in year 2011, the band has now released two EP’s and four music videos – two of them entirely Wends’ own making. DIY attitude is something that has pushed Wends forward from the start.
After their first EP “Lives, Breathes”, all the songs have been produced, recorded and mixed by the guys themselves. All the graphic design is self-made. The backdrop hanging behind them on stage, and even their first t-shirt model was hand printed by the band members. The latest thing they did was program a timecode synced light show that they use on their live shows, which gives an additional kick to their already charismatic stage presence. But they did this never forgetting the main thing they were all there for – to enjoy the time on stage together and giving the audience more than they could have imagined.
Between gigs and recording, there’s not a lot of freetime for these guys. Printing their own custom made t-shirts, shooting their own music videos (not to forget all the awesome people who lend their time just for fun – thank you all) and of course practicing and writing new material for the future.
During the past year and a half Wends has released four low-budget music videos on YouTube with over 40 000 views in total, an EP called “Everything’s Not Fucked Up which have both had a good reception in the social media and the domestic music scene. Their latest music video single “Supa Dupa Girl” was chosen Power Play of the Week by a national radio station YleX, which is not that common for an unsigned band.
Wends head towards the global music market. Only a year ago in an interview for a local newspaper they said that going abroad is what they focus on – to date they have played three shows outside of Finland, the first of them was in one of the largest Scandinavian showcase festivals Tallinn Music Week. Doing things by themselves has proved effective so far and they intend to continue getting their hands dirty in the future as well.
